June 2010

Amuri Estate Retreat Olive Harvest
Date: 01 Jun 2009 - 10 Jul 2009
Venue: Amuri Estate Retreat, 2/128 Medway Road, Hanmer Springs, North Canterbury
City: Hanmer Springs

Amuri Estate Retreat Olive Harvest A 'hands on' experience to help with the olive harvest. This is not hard work! Our olive trees are picked by hand using tarps under the trees and hand held rakes to strip the fruit from the branches. We work in teams of two, and there is no skill requried other than being sociable. A medium level of fitness is best as there is some bending, lifting and walking required. But we are living testimony to what can be achieved by the power of positive thinking! Providing the season runs true to form, the harvest commences in early June and finishes around mid-July. Even though this takes place during the Winter months, we usually enjoy warm & sunny weather. Occasionally we have harvested in the snow so best to be prepared for anything by wearing lots of layers. The day starts around 8:30am. Morning snacks are provided, and include tea, coffee, fresh fruit & muesli bars. Lunches include sandwiches, Lisa's homemade soups & fresh bread. Knock-off time is around 3:30pm. After the crates are loaded on the truck, we invite everyone to join us for some 'liquid libation'. Each participant receives Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Amuri Estate Retreat.

Auckland's Civic Theatre will transform into a magical world of lushly orchestrated music, gasp-inducing dance, songs that draw excited laughter one moment, and soaring wonder the next. Only one show brings all of the facets of musical theatre together so completely and produces an experience that stays with you forever; Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats.

It's a show that barely needs an introduction. Since Cats first opened on the West End stage in 1981, it has become one of the world's best known and best loved musicals.

Within two and half years of the London opening there were productions in New York, Tokyo, Budapest and Vienna, and the first of tour US touring productions had hit the road.

With all new production sets and costumes direct from the recent Melbourne season, Auckland is set relive the memory of one of the world's most popular musicals, one more time.

American Express Queenstown Winterfestival
Date: 26 Jun 2009 - 05 Jul 2009
Venue: Queenstown
City: Queenstown

American Express Queenstown WinterfestivalEvery year since 1975, Queenstown has thrown a party for a very special friend - winter. 2009 will be no different and we would love you to join us.

The recipe is actually pretty simple - you take fireworks, comedy, drag races, birdman action, jazz, street parades, a glitzy ball and that's just in town.

Then we add the mountain stuff ski races, rail jams, night skiing, dog races and plenty of mountain mayhem.

Finally we throw it all in a bowl, chuck in a pinch of "wacky", a dash of "zany" and a couple of good handfuls of "wow" then simmer until June 26 when we get to add the last and most important ingredient - you!

There will an incredible programme with loads of fantastic events lined up over 10 days including all the old favourites and some new special festival twists.

So start planning for the 2009 American Express Queenstown Winter Festival - Friday 26th June - Sunday 5th July.
